口语 - Conversational Chinese

Like in other languages, Chinese also has certain words that are mostly used for conversations. Some of them is just so commonly used during informal conversation that dictionary doesn't have those. Here are some China expats basic conversation tips for living in China. I also include a sample sentence for each. Let me know if there's a question. 

除此之外 in addition… 我喜欢吃西瓜和苹果，除此之外，还喜欢吃草莓
动不动 often 他妈妈身体不太好，动不动就生病。
假如 If 假如你有地方不明白，可以去问老师。
不妨 why not as well 那家饭店的菜不错，你不妨去尝尝。
关顾了 totally absorbed by 他这个学期光顾了玩儿，期末考试没通过！

即使。。jíshǐ。也。。。 even though 即使你想在阻止了她，她将来也还是会自杀的
大不了 why make a big deal of unimportant things 只不过丢了个钱包，有什么大不了的？
一个劲儿 continuously 这个老师一个劲儿地提问，真烦人
不至于bùzhìyú can't be that 语很难，但也不至于完全学不会啊。
固然 altough 他迟到固然不对，但他已经跟老师道歉了啊。

不单是 -不但是 = 不只是 not only 不单是我，班上的其它同学也觉得这些听力太难了。
大致dà zhì roughly大致=大约 这大学大致有4000多名留学生。
多亏 luckily 没想到今天下这么大的雨，多亏妈妈让我带了伞。
。。。为。。。而。。。。because of this... then... 不要为那种小事而烦恼。
总得。。。。 at the very least must 他生病住院了，你不去看他，也总得给他打个电话吧。

总算。。。。（终于） at last, finally 天气总算暖和了。
何况 especially, it's even more 我冬天都不穿毛衣，何况是春天呢。
日益rìyì = 越来越 it's getting more and more 春天到了，天气日益暖和起来。
。。。。， 这一点，。。。 this point of view.... 汉语不容易学，这一点，老师也知道。
。。。对。。。没有吸引力。about... not interesting 现在吃麦当劳对我已经没有吸引力了。

这倒是，不过。。。 that's true but....
A: 你可以周末再去看电影啊。
B: 这倒是，不过周末的票很难买到


对A抱有好感 treat A with interest 结婚之后，再也没有男孩子对我抱有好感了。
忍不住 can’t help 他忍不住哭了起来

A 到。B。。地步 A reaches degree B
 北京的交通已经到了让人发疯的地步。
 他们俩的关系已经好到了要结婚的地步。

正如zhèngrú A 所说 … just as / precisely as A said… 正如北京人所说，北京就是个停车场。
以 A 的名义 on behalf of A 他以公司的名义给学校捐了10万块钱。

之所以A 也是B    A because of B
 我之所以昨天没来上班是因为我爱人生病了。
 老师之所以让你们写作业是为了提高你们的汉语水平。

何必 there's no need to be like this, right? 省4毛钱而不坐公交车，何必呢？

反过来说　on the other hand 好的东西价格一般都不便宜，反过来说，价格便宜的东西一般也都不好。
用。A。。的话来说。。。　according to A… 用老师的话来说，这次考试可以算得上是非常重要。
试想A - for instance if A happened 试想要是考试不及格的话，你可怎么办。
Ａ恰恰相反Ｂ qia qia xiāngfǎn　Ａis opposite B 我的想法跟很多年轻人的想法恰恰相反。

没有必要非得méi yǒu bì yàoＡ　　Ａ is not a necessary thing to do
 你没有必要非得把菜都吃完。- You don't need to finish all the food

来句来吧， 都是自己人， 还那么破费干吗？ politeness, said to visitors who bring gifts. Don't need to waste money buying gifts.

落汤鸡： very wet like when caught in a big rain without an umbrella

不是一家人， 不进一家门：if a man and woman are not meant to be together then they can't be together(married)

吃醋: jealous

九牛二虎之力：use lots of energy

萝卜白菜， 各有所爱：each person has their own interest/hobby.

一问三不知：whatever asked, don't know the answer

说曹操， 曹操到：talk about a person and the person accidentally shows up.
