He's one of the characters in manga/anime Candy Candy. A complete story about him can be found elsewhere.  

Positive Side: Albert is definitely the most perfect man in the manga. He was handsome, kind, patient, strong, caring, rich, dependable, ... 

Down Side:

a. Not clear if he loved Candy in a romantic way. I think it's clearer to see that she liked him (from the manga, at least) than he liked her in romantic way.

b. I think he's heartless when he left Candy suddenly by just leaving a note (because overheard neighbors being suspicious of him). It's kind of cruel to me. And indeed, that made Candy suffered so much. That made her very sad. She searched for him everywhere, making scetches, and she even went to Rockstown looking for him. He should have known that but still he didn't attempt to come back to her. Lucky there was George who told her his whereabout. Candy didn't deserve this treatment. Could someone with true love possibly do this to his love?

My counter arguments to those who oppose Albert:

1. Albert's has no romantic love to Candy

Many argue that their relationship is just father-daughter type, no romantic passion. Here I'd like to make arguments why they are like that: 1. the story happened around 1900's. Things were different back then. 2. For most of the time they were together, Candy was in love with Terry. After Candy left Terry she started to develop more-than-a-friend feeling towards Albert. 3. Not everyone could show affection quickly or freely. Albert is a very important man, the leader of Audrey clan. Maybe he's taught to have manners to beware of the gossip magazines, etc.

2. Prince of the Hill

The whole story started when Candy Candy mee her Prince of the Hill. How she fell in love with him in that brief instant and tried to look for him. At the end of the manga/anime, Albert revealed that he actually was the Prince. The story started with Candy looked for him, now she found him, would it be just like that? This is the main story, there has to be something more after that, say, a wedding :D

It also worths mentioning that, as mentioned in the manga, the prince is her first love (not Anthony). She fell in love with Anthony because he looked like the prince, and again later she started to be interested in Terry because he looked like Anthony. Then Albert came along. She liked him not just because of his look (like the prince) but because of the way he was. Another emphasis on how strong Candy felt for him.

3. Albert is Candy's Father

Albert was Candy's adoptive father NOT her biological father. They never did anything inappropriate/crossed the line (which is why probably he's very careful as mentioned in point 1). They started to live together when he had amnesia (hence he didn't know who Candy was). He developed feeling towards her when he was still amnesic. Adoption annulment is sufficient to remove this no. 3 problem.

4. "Ideal" Quality

Albert was pretty much a problem solver for Candy. Troughout her life she's saved many times by him. He was also willing to sacrifice his life for her (the lion's attack case). He's loving, caring, patient, handsome, hardworking, responsible, ... By the way, Candy was also his life saver (when he's amnesia). 

5. Sussanna's Death

I didn't read the "final story" wrote by the author.

But, I know that Susanna died years later. Some argues becase of this Candy leaves Albert for Terry. Come on... How come Candy and Terry know that Susanna would die young (conspiracy theory: Did Candy or Terry kill her...? :) Unless that's so, then they wouldn't know. In addition, Candy is a kind of woman who is loved by many. In fact, all Audrey family boys fell for her. She doesn't need to wait for Susanna to die to get married. She can marry someone else. It's so pathetic to wait for someone to die in order to get married and we all know that Candy is a positive woman with forward thinking.

6. Run to Open Arms

Troughout the manga, Candy always runs to Albert's arms. It's like a symbol of him. I didn't read the most recent novel, but I read from the web that Candy ran to Anohito's arm. So...  it could be the author's implicit way of saying Albert.
